KAMRAN HAIDER FROM ILFORD SENTENCED FOR MURDERING BABY IN EAST LONDON
In a tragic case that has shocked the community of Ilford and the wider East London area, Kamran Haider, aged 39, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years for the brutal murder of his girlfriend's 16-month-old daughter, Nusayba Umar. The devastating incident occurred in 2019, leaving a young child dead and her mother, Asiyah Amazir, devastated.According to court proceedings, Haider inflicted catastrophic brain injuries upon Nusayba, injuries so severe that she succumbed to her wounds four days after being admitted to the hospital. The court heard that Haider, who was known to have a history of violence against former partners and their children, had a troubling past that included aggressive behavior and abusive tendencies. Despite his background, he had met Ms. Amazir, a woman from Newham, East London, through a dating website just five weeks prior to the tragic event.
Haider, who also worked as an unlicensed dog breeder, failed to appear at the Old Bailey for his sentencing hearing. Throughout the trial, he maintained his innocence, denying any responsibility for Nusayba’s injuries. However, the jury found him guilty of murder and a separate count of child cruelty during the proceedings held on Monday. In his absence, Mrs. Justice Cheema-Grubb handed down a life sentence for the murder charge, along with an 18-month sentence for cruelty, to run concurrently.
The court was informed of Haider’s violent history, which included attacking a former girlfriend and abusing her children in an attempt to 'teach them a lesson.' The evidence revealed that Ms. Amazir, who was from Newham, had moved into Haider’s residence to assist with his dog breeding business. Initially, she did not have significant concerns about his behavior, although he was described as 'snappy' and 'verbally aggressive.'
However, just two weeks before the fatal incident, Nusayba suffered a separate head injury while in Haider’s care. The court heard that Haider’s behavior grew increasingly threatening towards both the mother and her child. On the day of the attack, Ms. Amazir recounted hearing Nusayba crying. Haider reportedly told her to 'shut up, Nusayba,' followed by a slapping sound. She then heard Nusayba yelp, indicating distress. The toddler, who weighed only 17 pounds, did not show external injuries but soon experienced a seizure. Concerned for her daughter’s health, Ms. Amazir took Nusayba from Haider’s house and called emergency services while waiting at a bus stop.
Initially, she told paramedics that her daughter had fallen ill on a bus. Nusayba was rushed to hospital but tragically died four days later. An investigation into her death concluded that the cause was 'violent shaking' and impact, confirming the brutal nature of her injuries and the tragic loss of a young life in East London.
