KAMI GASTON FROM HYDE SENTENCED AFTER BRUTAL ATTACK IN HATTERSLEY WOODS

In a disturbing series of events that unfolded in May 2021, a woman was subjected to a heinous assault in the woods of Hattersley, a district near Hyde. The incident began when the victim was walking through the wooded area with a male companion. During their walk, she was tragically raped by Kami Gaston, a 20-year-old man residing on Lumn Road, Hyde. The assault shocked the local community and prompted a swift response from law enforcement authorities.

As the victim was crying out for help, her distress was heard by another woman who was out walking her dog nearby. Responding to the cries, the dog walker approached the scene, only to be met with violence. Kami Gaston, in a violent outburst, assaulted her, knocking her to the ground and forcibly snatching her mobile phone. He then threatened her, before throwing her phone into the bushes and fleeing the scene with the victim in tow.

Following the incident, the police were promptly notified, and an extensive investigation was launched. Through diligent efforts, authorities managed to identify and arrest Kami Gaston. He was subsequently charged with multiple offences, including one count of rape and a section 47 assault. The case went to court, where Gaston was found guilty of these serious crimes.

In a sentencing that reflects the gravity of his actions, the court sentenced Kami Gaston to 13 years in prison. Additionally, he was given an eight-year extended licence period, which will oversee his conduct after his release.
