KAMEN SMITH AND SHOCKING CRIMES IN WARRINGTON
A disturbing case unfolded in Warrington involving Kamen Smith, a 29-year-old man whose actions have shocked the local community and led to serious legal consequences. The incident involved a predatory sexual assault on a vulnerable woman within her own home, an attack that has left lasting emotional scars on the victim.
The events took place during the summer of 2021, with Smith's behavior escalating from alcohol-fueled misconduct to violent assault.
According to court proceedings, Smith had been drinking in St Helens the night before the offenses, visiting establishments such as the Black Bull pub in Eccleston and the Bird I’th Hand pub on Prescot Road.
His attempts to continue his night out in Warrington's licensed venues, including Kandy Klub on Westfield Street, proved unsuccessful, and by approximately 4 a.m., he found himself in the home of a woman and her boyfriend.
While the woman was described as being 'seven out of 10' in terms of drunkenness and was feeling tired and intoxicated, Smith took advantage of her vulnerable state.
The court heard that he sexually assaulted her while her boyfriend was outside smoking.
Despite her protests and attempts to dissuade him, Smith began to molest her, disregarding her clear lack of interest.
The woman's boyfriend, upon learning of the assault, sensed that something was wrong and confronted Smith.
This confrontation quickly turned violent.
Smith responded by throwing a punch and attacking the male victim, chasing him outside and kicking his car, causing scuff marks and snapping the wing mirror.
The assault on the boyfriend continued as Smith struck him repeatedly in the face and head, and kicked him in the back.
During the attack, Smith reportedly threatened to kill the man, stating he would not stop until he did.
The victim sustained a facial cut that required hospital treatment, with the cut being glued in the emergency room.
The female victim’s impact statement revealed ongoing psychological trauma.
She continues to struggle with sleep, nightmares, and feelings of insecurity, especially in her own home.
Her mental health has been significantly affected, and she feels unsafe when people pass by or knock on her door.
Legal proceedings revealed that Smith has a history of convictions, including previous offenses for assaulting emergency workers and public order offenses.
While he was initially released under investigation for the recent offenses, he was also involved in drug dealing activities in Warrington.
On April 6, 2022, Smith was caught selling crack cocaine and heroin, leading to a conviction for possession with intent to supply controlled substances.
He was sentenced to 28 months in prison by Judge David Swinnerton at Liverpool Crown Court on May 24 of this year.
Further legal actions included a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing on June 19, where authorities sought to confiscate assets related to his criminal activities.
The court approved the forfeiture and destruction of drugs and a mobile phone seized at the time of his arrest, as well as the confiscation of £150 found in his possession.
The money was donated to the court’s nominated charity, East Liverpool RDA.
In his defense, Jeremy Smith described the circumstances as 'unpleasant' and highlighted Kamen Smith’s struggles with mental health, alcohol, and drug problems, suggesting these issues contributed to his behavior.
He also noted that Smith was coping well in prison, where he was reportedly thriving under the regime.
Judge Denis Watson delivered the sentencing, emphasizing the vulnerability of the female victim and the profound impact of the assault.
While he considered the possibility of labeling Smith a dangerous offender, he ultimately decided against it, citing the circumstances.
Smith, who resides on Molyneux Avenue in Bewsey, was sentenced to four years in prison, to run consecutively after his current drug dealing sentence concludes.
Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offender register for life and to adhere to a six-year restraining order preventing him from contacting or approaching the female victim.
