MAN JAILED AFTER BITING WOMAN’S FACE AND STRANGLING HER
A 33-year-old man has received a 40-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to assaulting a woman.Kaine Martin, who has no fixed address, appeared before Ipswich Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday, 2 June, following his earlier guilty plea to all the charges.
The court was informed that Martin attacked a woman, with whom he had been in a relationship, inside a tent located in Lowestoft.
During the assault, Martin repeatedly struck the victim’s head against the tent floor and wrapped his arm around her neck, making it difficult for her to breathe.
When she attempted to leave, he pushed her head into the ground and tried to seize her phone in an effort to stop her from calling for help.
A bystander, who was nearby, heard the victim’s screams and stepped in to assist.
She exited the tent with visible injuries, including facial bruises and a bite mark on her cheek, prompting a police response.
The victim also shared an audio recording captured on her phone, which documented part of the incident.
Martin received the following sentences: 28 months for false imprisonment, 24 months for non-fatal strangulation (to run concurrently), three months for assault causing actual bodily harm (also concurrent), and six months for breaching a restraining order related to a different victim (concurrent).
Additionally, the assault breached a suspended sentence, leading to an extra 12-month imprisonment, to be served consecutively, culminating in a total of 40 months' incarceration.
