KAI HUTCHINSON SENTENCED FOR GROOMING AND SEXUAL OFFENCES IN HULL
A teenage boy with an innocent appearance, identified as Kai Hutchinson, has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison following a series of disturbing sexual offences against young girls in Hull. The court heard that Hutchinson, who is 18 years old and resides on Pembroke Grove off Preston Road in east Hull, engaged in manipulative and controlling conduct that caused significant psychological harm to four separate victims.
Hutchinson confessed to a total of eight offences: five counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child and three counts of sexual communication with a child.
The details of the case reveal a pattern of predatory behavior carried out primarily through various social media platforms, including Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook.
Prosecutor David Godfrey outlined the disturbing nature of Hutchinson’s interactions with the victims.
The first girl, aged 14 at the time, connected with Hutchinson on Snapchat.
Their conversation lasted approximately one month before they arranged to meet in person.
It was established that Hutchinson was aware she was only 14, yet their relationship quickly escalated to sexual encounters.
According to Mr.
Godfrey, the sexual activity between Hutchinson and the first girl occurred on at least ten occasions, with Hutchinson exerting a certain degree of pressure on her.
The victim described Hutchinson as “a bit controlling,” which suggests a manipulative dynamic.
During their relationship, Hutchinson sent her explicit images of himself and also requested her to send explicit pictures, which she eventually did.
The second girl, who was only 12 years old at the time of initial contact, was approached by Hutchinson via Instagram.
As their communication progressed, it became increasingly explicit.
Hutchinson sent her intimate photographs of himself and bombarded her with messages, demanding explicit images.
The victim, overwhelmed by the pressure, confided in her mother, leading to authorities becoming involved.
The third girl maintained contact with Hutchinson through Facebook, where she disclosed her age as 13.
They met several times, engaging in sexual activity on at least ten occasions.
The victim described their relationship as “toxic,” and it was revealed during the trial that Hutchinson had manipulated her into sexual acts, with her feeling reluctant to upset him.
The fourth victim, aged 15, was in contact with Hutchinson through Snapchat.
He was aware she was 14 at the time.
Hutchinson persisted in sending her explicit images of himself; however, it was noted she did not reciprocate with any images of her own.
Victims described the profound and lasting impact these experiences had on their mental health.
The first girl reported difficulty forming subsequent relationships, crying frequently and feeling unable to get out of bed.
The second victim expressed feelings of emptiness, low mood, and anxiety, alongside concentration issues at school.
The third girl conveyed that her life has been forever altered, experiencing loss of appetite, constant anxious thoughts, and apprehension about going outside.
The girl who did not give a victim statement has not publicly disclosed her experiences.
During the sentencing, Hutchinson’s defense lawyer, Dale Brook, emphasized his client's lack of prior criminal history.
He noted that Hutchinson had been held in custody at an adult prison for several months but assessed as a low risk of reoffending.
Mr.
Brook acknowledged the gravity of the offences, describing them as “very serious” and “wholly inappropriate and illegal,” even though he suggested the relationships were influenced by Hutchinson’s immaturity and manipulative tendencies.
Ultimately, the court sentenced Kai Hutchinson to four years and ten months in a young offenders’ institution.
Additionally, Hutchinson was subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and will be required to register as a sex offender indefinitely, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk to the community.
