KADEES MOHAMMED FROM BIRMINGHAM FOUND GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER IN BABY'S DEATH

A tragic case has culminated in the conviction of Kadees Mohammed, a resident of Dovey Road in Birmingham, for the manslaughter of his three-week-old son, Ibrahim. The heartbreaking incident occurred on 18 October 2022, when the infant suffered fatal head injuries that ultimately led to his death.

Mohammed was initially charged with murder, a serious allegation reflecting the gravity of the child's injuries. However, after a comprehensive trial held at Birmingham Crown Court, the jury reached a verdict that diverged from the original charge. They found Mohammed not guilty of murder but convicted him of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, acknowledging that his mental state at the time played a significant role in the tragic outcome.

In addition to the manslaughter conviction, the jury also found Mohammed guilty of two counts of unlawful wounding. These verdicts were announced on Thursday, marking a significant moment in the legal proceedings surrounding this heartbreaking case.

The court proceedings revealed that Mohammed had previously been perceived as a caring husband and father. However, during the trial, it was noted that he had begun to exhibit unusual and concerning behavior, prompting mental health assessments. According to West Midlands Police, efforts to understand and address his mental health issues had been initiated prior to the incident.

Following the verdict, Ibrahim’s mother paid a poignant tribute to her son, describing him as a “beautiful” child. She expressed her enduring love and grief, stating, “My love for you is eternal. I know that you are no longer with me but your precious belongings are so dear to me.” She shared her longing for a different life, imagining how it would have been to watch Ibrahim grow, laugh with him, and wipe away his tears. Her words conveyed a deep sense of loss, emphasizing that her memories of her son would remain forever, likening him to a “beautiful flower.”

As the case moves forward, Mohammed has been remanded into a secure mental health facility. His sentencing is scheduled to take place during the week beginning 9 December, where the court will determine the appropriate legal consequences considering his mental health status and the tragic events that unfolded in Birmingham.
