KADE SIBTHORPE FROM SWINTON SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN GREATER MANCHESTER

In July 2017, a man identified as Kade Sibthorpe, aged 24 and residing in Swinton near Salford, Greater Manchester, was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of a serious sexual assault. The incident took place in the early hours of a November morning in 2014, when Sibthorpe approached a young mother’s residence under false pretenses.

According to reports, Sibthorpe knocked on the woman’s front door at approximately 4:30 am, claiming that he had lost his keys and needed entry into her home. Exploiting her sympathy and the early hour, he managed to persuade her to let him inside. Once inside, Sibthorpe’s behavior quickly turned aggressive and predatory. He confronted the woman, demanding she look him in the eye and tell him she did not want what he was about to do. His words and actions left her visibly distressed and traumatized.

The woman, who had her children sleeping upstairs at the time, was subjected to a brutal assault. She sought medical assistance the following morning, obtaining the morning-after pill to prevent pregnancy and to address potential injuries. Initially, she chose to remain silent about the assault, but after seeking counseling and processing her trauma, she eventually reported the incident to the police.

Sibthorpe’s online presence revealed disturbing details about his mindset. He referred to himself as ‘the devil in disguise’ on his Facebook page, which also featured memes related to voodoo and occult themes, suggesting a fascination with dark and sinister imagery.

His trial at Minshull Street Crown Court concluded on Friday, 14 July, where he was found guilty after a trial. During the proceedings, it was revealed that Sibthorpe had denied the assault, but forensic evidence proved otherwise. His DNA was recovered from the stairs of the woman’s house, directly linking him to the scene.

Prosecutor Robert Elias described the assault in detail, stating, “She tried to send him away, but he advanced into the house and began trying to kiss her, pulling at her top. She told him ‘no’ and turned her head away, but he persisted, saying, ‘look me in the eye and tell me you don’t want it.’”

He further explained, “She confirmed she did not want sex, but Sibthorpe was unresponsive to her protests. He appeared to smirk and had a smile on his face, indicating he believed she was consenting. However, this was clearly not the case. He pulled her pyjama pants down and raped her on the stairs of her home before leaving almost immediately afterward.”

Judge Maurice Greene addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of the crime. “You raped her against her will, in the early hours while her children were upstairs. Since the attack, she has been prescribed antidepressants and has struggled to cope with the trauma, which led her to report the incident to the police,” the judge stated. He also acknowledged the potential danger Sibthorpe faces in prison, noting, “I understand there are individuals who wish to do him harm.”

Sibthorpe’s sentencing reflects the gravity of his actions, and the case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of justice for victims of sexual violence.
