JUNIOR ROSERIE FROM CANNING TOWN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR YEARS OF SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEENAGE GIRL IN INNER LONDON
In a case that has shocked the local community of Canning Town, Junior Roserie, aged 31, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for a prolonged period of sexual abuse inflicted upon a teenage girl. The disturbing case was brought to light during proceedings at Inner London Crown Court, revealing a pattern of grooming and manipulation that spanned several years.Roserie, who was employed as a print manager at the Guardian newspaper during the time of the abuse, subjected the young girl to a series of traumatic experiences. The court heard that the abuse began when the girl was just 15 years old, and Roserie’s influence over her was both insidious and manipulative. He coerced her into lying to her carers about the identity of the father when she became pregnant, and subsequently took her to an abortion clinic. The court was told that Roserie warned her that if she ever reported the abuse to the authorities, no one would believe her, and he even threatened to have her deported, adding a layer of intimidation and control to his actions.
The case took a significant turn when members of the victim’s family confronted Roserie, who was then caught and recorded confessing to his crimes. This evidence proved crucial in securing his conviction. In a remorseful message sent via text message, Roserie expressed regret, stating, “Thinking back, I wish I stopped this from day one,” highlighting the extent of his awareness of the wrongfulness of his actions.
The court also heard about the severe psychological impact the abuse had on the victim. She had engaged in self-harming behaviors since the period of abuse, which occurred between 2004 and 2006, and had attempted to take her own life in November 2010. Judge Usha Karu, presiding over the case, emphasized her belief that Roserie had groomed the girl to satisfy his warped sexual desires. She noted that the victim had a difficult relationship with her mother and lacked many friends, which made her more vulnerable to Roserie’s manipulation.
Judge Karu remarked, “She trusted you,” and pointed out how obvious her naivety was, especially when she asked Roserie if she was still a virgin after their sexual encounters, to which he misled her. The judge described her as “severely traumatised,” and her suicide attempt as evidence of the profound psychological damage caused by the abuse.
Roserie’s defense attorney, Rupert Hallows, stated that his client had ceased the abusive behavior after meeting his current fiancée in 2006. Despite admitting to two counts of sexual activity with a child, Roserie was convicted of a final charge last month. As part of his sentence, he was placed under a Sex Offenders Prevention Order, which prohibits him from residing in the same home or being alone with any girl under the age of 16, aiming to prevent further harm.
Roserie’s case underscores the devastating impact of grooming and sexual abuse on young victims and highlights the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in protecting vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
