JULIAN MARDON BRISTOL PAEDOPHILE NATURIST SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE

In September 2016, Julian Mardon, an 81-year-old man from Bristol, was convicted of a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against three young boys during the 1970s.

The court heard harrowing testimonies from the victims, who bravely recounted the profound and lasting impact of Mardon's vile acts.

Despite denying numerous serious abuse charges involving three boys and a girl, Mardon admitted to and pleaded guilty to other sexual misconduct allegations related to the three boys.

As a result, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

His incarceration is set to last until he is nearly 100 years old, and he will only be released if the parole board deems it appropriate.

Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender for life and is prohibited from working with children or vulnerable adults.

Judge William Hart addressed the court, stating, "Judges are sometimes heard to say in serious cases that it would be difficult to imagine a worse case of its kind.

Often, this is hyperbole.

But in your case, it is not easy to conceive of a more extensive catalogue of serious abuse of young boys than that perpetrated by you in the 1970s.

It amounts to a hideous record of sexual offending, of which you are the author.

The impact on the victims is incalculable.

It is vividly conveyed through their personal statements and their emotional testimony in court.

They continue to struggle with the burden of these vile memories." Throughout the proceedings, the court commended the police investigation led by Sergeant Katherine Davis, describing it as "extremely meticulous," despite her own request not to pursue certain lines of inquiry.

Mardon was part of a respected Bristol family business, connected to Mardon, Son and Hall, known locally for producing cigarette cards and packaging.

However, beneath this veneer of respectability, he was a predatory paedophile who exploited his trust within the community to sexually abuse both boys and girls for his own gratification.

In the 1970s, Mardon was a member of the Bristol Solarians Naturist Club, where he gained the trust of parents who left their children in his care.

It was during this period that he engaged in disturbing sexual activities with minors, often after giving them drinks and cigarettes.

He used his high-end camera equipment to photograph the children in compromising situations, further exploiting their innocence.

The court revealed that Mardon’s luxurious Clifton homes served as a backdrop for his twisted activities, creating what was described as a "naked utopia" designed to facilitate his abuse.

One of his victims, an 11-year-old boy, was targeted after being intoxicated at a party, where Mardon introduced him to sex toys and pornography, then repeatedly assaulted him sexually.

Prosecutor Andrew Macfarlane detailed that Mardon also preyed on another 11-year-old boy, encouraging the children to engage in sexual acts with each other.

A third victim endured frequent masturbation and oral sex, and was forced to perform anal sex on Mardon himself.

One victim described how, after being groomed and abused, he struggled with severe anxiety and relationship issues, feeling "conditioned to be the victim." He tearfully explained, "I get severe anxiety.

I can’t even buy my own clothes.

He used to buy me nice outfits before he traded me with other paedophiles." In a poignant moment, the victim’s wife looked directly at Mardon and said, "He is unable to function in any responsible way.

It is a direct impact of the abuse he received from you.

You used to buy his clothes, dress him up, and trade him off." Another victim expressed the profound and lasting damage inflicted by Mardon, stating, "I cannot underestimate the destruction it has caused in my entire life.

It was a classic grooming process." He also revealed that he had contemplated suicide and had once pounded on the door of a Bristol church, seeking guidance on how Mardon could be forgiven for his sins.
