August 2011 Man “addicted to child pornography” spared jail A MAN from Barnet who downloaded thousands of indecent images of children has been spared jail. Julian Goldberg, 28, of Churchfield Avenue had been addicted to child pornography since he was 13-years-old, Isleworth Crown Court heard. The court was told how over the next 15 years he amassed at least 6,400 images, with a handful at the more serious end of the spectrum. He had attempted to delete all trace of the images using hi-tech computer equipment, police said. Sentencing him last Friday, Judge Jonathan Denniss told Goldberg, who pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children, he was aware he had little understanding of the harm his actions caused. He added: “The purpose behind the legislation in this area is to avoid the exploitation and corruption of young children.” Goldberg, who has a wife and daughter, was ordered to pay £4,000 cost and given a 12 month community order. He was also told to attend a sex offender course and has been put on the sex offender register for five years.
