JOSLIN MURRAY OF CAMBORNE SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN CORNWALL

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Camborne and the surrounding areas, Joslin Bryan Murray, a 77-year-old resident of Polgrain Road, Tolvaddon, Cornwall, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 17 years for a series of heinous sexual offences committed against three young children. The offences, which spanned from 2013 to 2020, involved the abuse of victims as young as four years old, and the details of the case were thoroughly examined during a hearing at Truro Crown Court.

Judge Robert Linford, presiding over the case, not only handed down the 17-year sentence but also ordered Murray to be placed on the sex offenders register permanently. This decision underscores the severity of the crimes and the court’s commitment to protecting the community from such dangerous individuals. Murray had previously admitted to a total of 23 counts of sexual misconduct involving children under the age of 13, including some of the most serious offences.

The court heard that Murray’s abuse began when one of the victims was just four years old, continuing over several years. His criminal record includes eight counts of raping a child under 13, five sexual assaults, four counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual acts, as well as charges of assault by penetration, voyeurism, and the possession of indecent images of children. These offences paint a disturbing picture of a man who exploited the innocence of vulnerable young victims over an extended period.

The investigation into Murray’s activities was initiated last year when police officers uncovered evidence of his possession and distribution of indecent images during an online child abuse investigation. As a result, he was also subjected to a 20-year sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his access to children and prevent further offences.

Earlier in January 2021, Murray appeared at Truro Crown Court to admit to a series of charges related to the abuse of young girls under 13 over a period of seven years. During this hearing, he pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual assault, eight counts of rape, four counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual acts, assault by penetration, voyeurism, and the possession of tens of thousands of indecent images, including a significant number classified as Category A, the most serious level of child abuse images.

Judge Robert Linford warned Murray that he faces “a substantial period of imprisonment” and described him as “an offender of particular concern.” The case was scheduled for further proceedings on February 18, but the court’s decision to impose a 17-year sentence reflects the gravity of his crimes and the community’s need for justice and safety.
