JOSEPH WALKER FROM ESH WINNING FACES COURT OVER SHOCKING GROPING INCIDENT IN DURHAM

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community of Esh Winning, Durham, a 68-year-old man named Joseph Walker appeared before Durham Crown Court to answer charges related to inappropriate and criminal behavior involving a young boy. The incident took place on January 12, when Walker was found waiting outside his residence, and a 13-year-old boy approached him.

According to court proceedings, Walker called the boy over and attempted to entice him with a can of lager, which the boy refused, explaining he intended to take it home for his father. The prosecutor, Robin Patton, detailed that Walker then began engaging the boy with questions, before unexpectedly exposing himself in front of the young teenager. The situation escalated when Walker made an inappropriate attempt to grope the boy, reportedly saying, “Give us a feel,” as he tried to grasp the boy’s crotch area.

The boy, distressed and uncomfortable, managed to fend off Walker’s advances and quickly left the scene to inform his mother about what had transpired. The incident left a profound impact on the boy, who was described as normally happy but now suffering from embarrassment and distress. Mr. Patton emphasized that the boy had done nothing to provoke or encourage Walker’s actions, and as a result, his behavior both at school and at home has deteriorated. The community has become aware of the incident, leading to teasing and bullying from classmates, further exacerbating the boy’s suffering.

Joseph Walker was subsequently arrested and denied the allegations. However, the evidence presented in court painted a troubling picture of his past, revealing that he had previous convictions for gross indecency involving a boy around 16 years old, dating back to the 1970s. Additionally, Walker had been convicted twice for threatening behavior, including an incident in 1981 where he performed a sex act in public.

During the hearing, Walker’s defense solicitor, Bryan Mark, expressed remorse, stating that his client was ashamed of his actions and acknowledged that his behavior was inappropriate. Mr. Mark also highlighted Walker’s poor health, noting that he had undergone a triple heart bypass and suffers from angina, which he argued should be taken into account.

Walker pleaded guilty to charges of exposure and common assault. The court sentenced him to a two-year community rehabilitation order, which requires him to participate in a sex offenders’ program.
