JOSEPH SMITH'S SHOCKING SEXUAL OFFENSES IN HULL AND GOOLE REVEALED
In May 2017, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Joseph Smith, a 50-year-old man from Hull, who engaged in highly inappropriate and criminal behavior targeting young girls in the area. The events began when Smith was observed performing a sexual act on himself while riding his bicycle, with his trousers pulled down to his thighs.
This alarming display was directed at a group of three girls, aged 10 and 11, as he approached them on his bike.
Witnesses and police reports describe how Smith then made lewd comments, telling one of the girls that she had 'nice t**s' before quickly cycling away from the scene.
Following this incident, authorities intensified their investigation.
Officers spotted a man matching Smith’s description near the hospital in Goole, engaging with an 11-year-old girl.
The girl appeared visibly stunned by the encounter.
When questioned by police, she recounted that Smith had approached her and asked, 'Do you want to see my c***?' She was taken aback and responded with, 'Pardon?' Smith then repeated his request, pulled down his trousers, and exposed himself fully, according to her account.
She turned away in disgust and fear as he made a swift escape from the scene.
Law enforcement officers pursued Smith in their patrol vehicle, instructing him to stop.
Instead, he responded with defiance, asking, 'No.
Why?' before cycling furiously towards Westfield Avenue and Rutland Avenue.
Despite his efforts to evade arrest, Smith was eventually apprehended by the police.
During police interviews, he chose to remain silent, offering no responses to questions posed to him.
However, he later pleaded guilty to two counts of exposure and two counts of communicating with a minor under 16 for sexual gratification.
Historical records reveal that Smith had previous convictions and cautions related to similar offenses.
In February 1996, he was fined £200 for exposure, and in August 2016, he received a caution for sending an indecent image of himself to a child.
These prior incidents underscore a pattern of concerning behavior.
In a sentencing hearing at Hull Crown Court, Judge Mark Bury sentenced Smith to 12 months in prison.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offenses, stating, 'These were serious offences.
These offences, in conjunction with your recent caution and a previous conviction, means I can only deal with you by way of immediate imprisonment.' Additionally, Smith was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
