JOSEPH MAGEE STRIKES GUIDE DOG AND ATTACKS 73-YEAR-OLD IN NEWRY

Joseph Patrick Magee, born on August 12, 1987, and residing on St Marys Street in Newry, has been convicted of a serious assault that shocked the local community. The incident involved Magee physically attacking a guide dog and its owner, a 73-year-old man who is partially sighted, in the town of Newry.

He did not expect to be assaulted. He did not expect his guide dog to be struck in the belly, all in the presence of his wife.” The judge emphasized Magee’s criminal background, describing it as “very bad,” and noted that previous attempts at rehabilitation or punishment had evidently failed.

“It would appear everything else has been tried and a custodial sentence is appropriate in this case,” the judge concluded, leading to Magee’s imprisonment.
