BURNLEY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CRIMINAL DAMAGE AFTER SMASHING EX'S WINDOW IN ANGER

An East Lancashire man put a brick through his ex-partner’s window when she refused to open the door to him.Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard Joseph Light claimed he had gone to collect his property and became upset when his former partner said she had destroyed certain items of sentimental value.Light, 26, of Lonsdale Street, Burnley, pleaded guilty to criminal damage. He was given a conditional discharge for 18 months and ordered to pay £700 compensation. He was made subject to a restraining order for six months, which prohibits any contact with the aggrieved.Usmah Kausar, prosecuting, said Stacey Atkinson had ended the relationship with the defendant because of his anger issues, which frightened her.On the day of the incident he turned up at her Padiham home, kicking on the front door and demanding to speak to her.“She told him to go away, and next thing a brick came through the double-glazed front room window,” said Miss Kausar.Jessica Strike, in mitigation, her client had gone to retrieve some of his belongings including mosaics which had been made by his foster mother.“She told him she had smashed them, and this caused him great distress,” said Miss Strike.“He lashed out in anger and smashed the window.

That was never his intention when he attended the property.

As far as he is concerned, the relationship is now over.”
