JOSEPH JOHNSTONE FROM SHOTTTS AND EDINBURGH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEEN BOYS

In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Edinburgh and Shotts, a 67-year-old man named Joseph Johnstone was sentenced to eight months in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing two teenage boys. The heinous acts took place over a period spanning May and June of the previous year, revealing a pattern of predatory behavior that has left a lasting impact on the victims and their families.

Initially, Johnstone, who resides in Shotts, Lanarkshire, welcomed the two 15-year-old boys into his Edinburgh residence under the guise of hospitality. During their visits, he offered them tea and biscuits, seemingly innocent gestures that masked his sinister intentions. As the visits continued, he escalated his actions by serving alcohol to the minors, a move that facilitated his subsequent abuse.

According to reports, the situation took a darker turn when Johnstone showed the boys pornographic films while they were intoxicated. The exposure to such material was part of his manipulative tactics to lower their inhibitions. On separate occasions, he sexually assaulted each of the boys, actions that have now been confirmed through police investigations and court proceedings.

The case came to light when one of the boys' mothers grew increasingly concerned about her child's whereabouts. Her worries prompted her to visit Johnstone’s Edinburgh address, where she found her son lying on a bed, raising alarm and prompting further investigation. This intervention was crucial in uncovering the extent of Johnstone’s misconduct.

During police interviews, Johnstone admitted that the boys had requested to watch pornography and had also asked him to perform sex acts, which he willingly complied with. His admission confirmed the allegations and led to his conviction.
