JOSEPH GRAHAM FROM OLDHAM SENTENCED FOR GROOMING TWO 12-YEAR-OLDS IN DISTURBING ONLINE PLOT
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Oldham, Joseph Graham, aged 64, was convicted and sentenced for attempting to engage in sexual communication with what he believed to be two 12-year-old girls online. The incident unfolded over a period in early 2018, revealing a pattern of predatory behavior that ultimately led to his arrest and prosecution.
Graham had initiated contact with the decoys through two separate online platforms, known as ‘Meet Me’ and ‘Scout’.
According to court proceedings, he used the platform ‘Meet Me’ to send a message to one of the decoys, stating: “Hello sexy baby, fancy some fun.” Despite being repeatedly informed that the individuals he was communicating with were only 12 years old, Graham continued his advances.
His messages quickly escalated from casual greetings to explicit content, including sending photographs of his genitals and asking the decoys to perform oral sex on him.
He also requested that one of the ‘girls’ send him a picture of herself, further demonstrating his intent to exploit the situation.
The conversations, which included graphic images and sexual propositions, were eventually shared with a vigilante group called Dark Light.
This group, after reviewing the chat logs, took the step of confronting Graham at his residence on Vicarage Street in Oldham.
The confrontation lasted approximately 30 minutes and was streamed online, bringing public attention to the case.
Following the online exposure, the police were alerted, and officers promptly attended Graham’s home.
During the police interview the next day, Graham claimed that his actions were part of a role-playing scenario and that he did not believe he was communicating with actual children.
However, the evidence collected from the chat logs and the vigilante group’s findings proved otherwise.
Prosecutor Gavin Howie outlined the timeline of events, stating that between February 26 and March 3, 2018, Graham used the two chat platforms to contact the decoys.
On ‘Scout’, he initiated the conversation with the words: “Hello sexy baby, fancy some fun,” to which the decoy responded that she was 12.
Graham then proceeded to send a graphic image of his genitals and asked if she would perform sexual acts on him.
The conversation further included Graham wearing fishnets, which he claimed he liked, and continued with him requesting explicit images and sexual acts from the decoy.
Graham’s actions did not go unnoticed for long.
The vigilante group, armed with the chat logs, called the police on July 3, 2018.
Upon arrival, officers seized several items from his residence and took him into custody.
During his police interview, Graham maintained that he was engaged in role play and did not believe he was talking to a minor.
In sentencing, Recorder Alex Menary expressed concern over the significant delay in bringing the case to court, noting that such delays undermine public confidence in the justice system.
The court also considered Graham’s personal circumstances, including his struggles with alcohol addiction and social isolation, which were detailed in his pre-sentence report.
Graham, of St Margarets Gardens in Oldham, was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
Additionally, he was placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order until further notice and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, reflecting the severity of his offenses and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
