JOSEPH GAMBLE FROM COLCHESTER SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Colchester, Joseph Gamble, aged 42, was found guilty of attempting to engage in sexual activities with a minor and related offences. The incident unfolded during late May and early June of 2019, when Gamble engaged in online conversations with an individual he believed to be the mother of a 12-year-old girl named "Lizzie." In reality, the person he was communicating with was an undercover police officer operating under the alias "Becky." Throughout their exchanges, Gamble expressed a disturbing desire to have sexual contact with the girl, explicitly discussing his intentions to engage in sexual acts while "Becky" watched.
The conversations initially took place in an internet chatroom but later progressed to more direct communication via Skype and telephone calls.
During these exchanges, Gamble also spoke about his interest in a sex doll, claiming he pretended it was a child, which further highlighted the disturbing nature of his fantasies.
At the time of his arrest, authorities discovered that Gamble had two indecent images of children stored on his phone, classified as Category B and Category C.
These images added to the evidence against him, which was presented during his trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.
Gamble, who has a prior criminal record with three convictions for unrelated offences, denied any sexual interest in children, claiming during police interviews that he believed "it was all a fantasy" created by "Becky." However, the court was not convinced by his explanations.
Judge Timothy Walker, presiding over the case, stated that Gamble had sought sexual contact with a child, believing he was communicating with a minor.
The judge emphasized that Gamble thought the person he was talking to was the mother of a 12-year-old girl, yet he still pursued sexual conversations and expressed his intentions openly.
The judge also noted Gamble's discussions about a sex doll, which he pretended was a child, and his attempts to arrange or facilitate a child sex offence.
Following a trial, Gamble was convicted on multiple counts, including attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, arranging or facilitating a child sex offence, publishing obscene material, and possessing indecent images of children.
As a result, he was sentenced to three and a half years in prison.
Additionally, Gamble will be subject to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order and will remain on the sex offender register indefinitely, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community of Colchester.
