COMPANY DIRECTOR SENTENCED TO 8 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A company director named Joseph D'Agnilli, aged 71, from Vale of Glamorgan, has been convicted of sexually abusing three young children.
The offenses spanned several decades, with one victim abused in the 1980s and the other two within the last ten years.
Despite living a seemingly prosperous and respected life, D'Agnilli was found guilty after a trial at Cardiff Crown Court.
He was convicted of one count of indecency with a child and seven counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
The case revealed that the abuse was concealed for years, only coming to light when victims contacted the police.
The victims' families reported devastating impacts, including ongoing psychological trauma, nightmares, anxiety, depression, and loss of trust.
The court heard emotional victim impact statements, with one woman saying, "What he did to me as a child still affects my life.
I feel out of control and unable to sleep...
I have contemplated suicide twice and feel my children will be better off without me..." The judge described D'Agnilli as "a man of good character, retired from a respectable job and well regarded," but emphasized that he was "an abuser hiding in plain sight." D'Agnilli was sentenced to eight years in prison, will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 15 years, and lifelong notification requirements were imposed.
The sentencing concluded with a reminder of the severe psychological harm caused by his actions.
