BARRY MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND STALKING
A man with a £200 weekly cocaine addiction subjected his girlfriend to ongoing domestic abuse, leaving her in a state of constant fear.Jordan Isaacs, 30, from Barry, was described by a judge as a “bully” after he was sentenced for strangling and hitting his partner within her own home.
Following his arrest and release on bail with the condition of no contact, he continued to stalk her.
Prosecutor Harriet Ealden explained to Newport Crown Court that Isaacs called her 150 times from a withheld number and left 27 voice messages, some laden with threats.
The incident in October involved Isaacs returning home intoxicated, shutting a door on her, and causing injuries to her arm and foot before attempting to strangle her with his hands, all while their children were present.
During the assault, he also taunted her with insults such as calling her a “s*** mum.” His abusive behavior persisted for more than a month, including making harassing phone calls and leaving beer bottles on her doorstep.
In a heartfelt victim impact statement, she told the court that the ordeal caused her severe anxiety, difficulty sleeping, and feelings of terror and self-hatred, leading her to believe this was her new reality.
Isaacs pleaded guilty to charges of intentional strangulation, assault causing actual bodily harm, and stalking.
He was remanded in custody following his second arrest in November.
His defense lawyer, Tom Roberts, argued that Isaacs was taking steps to change and acknowledged his need for self-improvement.
Judge Eugene Egan criticized Isaacs’ cocaine consumption, highlighting he spent around a quarter of his £2,500 monthly income on the drug.
Addressing Isaacs directly, the judge condemned his behavior as bullying and humiliating towards his ex-partner.
As a result, Isaacs, currently residing on Fields Park Road, Pontcanna, Cardiff, was sentenced to 20 months in prison and was issued a 10-year restraining order to protect the victim.
