March 2017 One of UK’s youngest rapists finally jailed A sex attacker who who became one of UK’s youngest rapists after carrying out his first attack aged just 12 has been jailed for five years. Jordan Hyman, 30 from East Renfrewshire, preyed on two girls from the ages of seven and nine and subjected both to sexual abuse and rape. A judge told Hyman: “Your offending took place when you were a very young man. It started when you were 12 and continued to 19 or 20 or thereby.” Lord Kinclaven told him at the High Court in Edinburgh: “Clearly the court requires to mark the seriousness of the offending.” The judge said: “There is no alternative to a custodial sentence.” He said today he would set a five-year prison sentence for Hyman taking account of his “youth and immaturity” at the time. Lord Kinclaven also ordered that Hyman should be kept under supervision for a further two year period and warned that if he breached licence conditions during that period he could be returned to custody. Hyman was earlier convicted of raping one girl during a four year period from 1998 at Giffnock, near Glasgow. He also exposed himself to the child and carried out sex acts on her. He also assaulted the victim and punched and kicked her on the head and body and dropped the leg of a bed on her foot. Hyman, formerly of Main Street, Busby, raped a second girl during a three-year period from 2000 in the Giffnock area. He also attacked her, slapping, punching and kicking her and perpetrated sexual abuse on her. He was earlier found guilty of seven charges of rape, indecency, assault and underage sex committed between 1998 and 2006. Defence counsel Thomas Ross said: “He developed behavioural problems at the age of 11 and although counselling and therapy was provided these interventions were not entirely successful.” Mr Ross said Hyman had served in the Israeli army for a short period. He added: “He has been walking with the aid of a stick for a period of five years due to damage to his knee sustained during military service.” The defence counsel said Hyman had gone a lengthy period without committing further offences. Hyman was placed on the sex offenders’ register.
