JORDAN HARRISON FROM CASTLEFORD SENTENCED FOR SHOCKING BABY INJURIES IN LEEDS

In October 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving a man from Castleford who inflicted severe injuries on a young child, leaving her with life-altering consequences. Jordan Harrison, aged 23, was brought before Leeds Crown Court to face charges related to the brutal assault on an innocent baby.

According to court proceedings, Harrison's actions resulted in the baby suffering from significant and shocking injuries, which included bleeding to the brain, as a direct consequence of his loss of temper and physical assault. The court was informed that the injuries were so severe that medical professionals expressed concern about the child's future health, specifically mentioning the potential for long-term sight and hearing impairments due to the trauma sustained.

The incident came to light after the baby was taken to a hospital in Pontefract, where she was suffering from seizures and vomiting. Medical staff quickly recognized the severity of her condition and transferred her to the intensive care unit at Leeds General Infirmary. There, doctors conducted thorough examinations and concluded that her injuries were non-accidental, indicating deliberate harm rather than an accident.

Prosecutor Bashir Ahmed detailed the extent of the child's injuries, revealing that she had suffered bleeding to her brain, eyes, and ears, along with bruising across her body. Additionally, she had fractures to her ribs and legs, which underscored the brutality of the assault.

During police interviews, Harrison initially claimed that he had dropped the baby, attempting to explain the injuries. He also suggested that he might have been rough with her during play. Interestingly, Harrison stated that he had recorded footage of the baby after she began making groaning noises, and he had conducted internet searches for terms such as “seizures” and “fitting.” However, he later admitted to officers that he had not sought medical help when the seizures first occurred, a detail that further implicated his neglect.

Judge Peter Collier, QC, the Recorder of Leeds, sentenced Harrison to three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and child neglect. The judge emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “It must have been apparent to you that what had been happening to her at your hands had caused these injuries.” The court acknowledged the serious nature of the offense and the profound impact it could have on the child's future health and well-being.
