JONATHON DOWNIE OF MORECAMBE SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR RAPE IN SHOCKING CASE

A man from Morecambe, identified as Jonathon Downie, has been sentenced to five years in prison following a serious sexual assault incident involving a 16-year-old girl. The incident occurred after Downie lured the young victim back to his flat, an act that has now led to his conviction and imprisonment.

The events unfolded on August 7, 2024, during a gathering where the victim was attending a party. After the event, Downie convinced her to accompany him to his residence. Once there, he offered her alcohol, which she consumed, and then proceeded to initiate sexual contact. The victim, distressed and uncomfortable, repeatedly told Downie to stop, but he ignored her pleas and continued the assault.

Despite her protests and attempts to push him away, Downie persisted in raping her. During the assault, he asked her, “did I rape you?” to which she responded affirmatively. When she questioned why he did not stop when she asked him to, Downie responded with a chilling remark, “are you going to get me done?”

Following the incident, the victim reported the assault to the authorities. An investigation was swiftly launched, leading to Downie’s arrest on suspicion of rape and sexual assault. He was subsequently charged with these crimes.

At Preston Crown Court, Downie, aged 25 and described as a registered sex offender, pleaded guilty to the charge of rape. His guilty plea resulted in a five-year prison sentence, reflecting the severity of his actions and the impact on the victim. The case has garnered significant attention due to the nature of the crime and the fact that Downie is a known offender from Morecambe.
