MAN JAILED FOR SEVEN YEARS FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT
A man convicted of raping a woman in Edinburgh and sexually assaulting another in Aberdeen has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
Jonathan Spink, aged 37, assaulted the woman in Edinburgh at a flat in 2021, taking advantage of her intoxication from alcohol and prescription medication to commit the offence when she was unable to give consent.
He also committed a sexual assault on a different woman at a residence in Aberdeen prior to the Edinburgh incident.
During the sentencing at the High Court in Edinburgh, judge Lord Summers emphasized the severe impact of Spink's actions.
Spink, a resident of Edinburgh, maintained his innocence regarding the charges, but was ultimately convicted of both rape and sexual assault.
The rape occurred on October 31, 2021, as the victim was semi-conscious at the Edinburgh flat.
The Aberdeen assault transpired between December 2017 and January 2018.
Defense lawyer Victoria Dow acknowledged the necessity of a custodial sentence, stating, "There is clearly no alternative to a custodial sentence.
Mr Spink is aware of that." She noted that Spink has no prior convictions and confirmed he has been placed on the sex offenders register.
