JONATHAN PERCY FROM MANNINGTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEEN GIRLS ON FACEBOOK IN DORSET
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of online grooming, Jonathan Percy, a 29-year-old man from Mannington, Dorset, was sentenced to an indefinite term of imprisonment for his heinous crimes involving two young girls he met through the social media platform Facebook.Percy, who had previously served time for a similar offense in 2003, used the internet to target vulnerable minors. He created a false identity by pretending to be a 15-year-old, which he then used to establish a deceptive relationship with two girls aged 12 and 13. His manipulative tactics included grooming the young victims over a period of time, gaining their trust before moving to more sinister actions.
According to court reports, Percy supplied the girls with alcoholic beverages, specifically alcopops, in an attempt to lower their inhibitions. The grooming culminated in Percy taking the girls to a woodland area, where he engaged in sexual activities with them. The details of the incident were revealed during the court proceedings, which painted a disturbing picture of exploitation and predatory behavior.
Percy’s guilty plea was entered at Bournemouth Crown Court, where he faced serious charges related to sexual assault and grooming. The court sentenced him to serve a minimum of three years before he becomes eligible for parole. Additionally, Percy was issued a ban from using any form of computer or internet-enabled device, in an effort to prevent further offenses.
This case underscores the ongoing risks associated with online platforms and the importance of vigilance in protecting minors from predators. The authorities continue to emphasize the need for parents and guardians to monitor internet activity and for social media companies to implement stricter safeguards against such abuse.
