A man accused of raping a woman while she was asleep has been convicted of the crime after appearing at Grimsby Crown Court on Friday, 17 July 2026.
The trial lasted five days, after which the jury returned a verdict of guilty.
The defendant has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on Friday, 14 August 2026, for sentencing.
Jonathan Matthew, age 30, from Scunthorpe, faced charges including rape, sexual assault by penetration, criminal damage, and breach of his Sex Offender Registration conditions.
On Monday, 16 March 2026, he pleaded guilty to criminal damage and to breaching registration requirements, but he maintained his innocence regarding the sexual offence allegations during the proceedings.
The jury found him guilty of rape but acquitted him of sexual assault on the 17 July verdict.
