JONATHAN JUPP FROM WARRINGTON ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SENDING SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MESSAGES TO DECOY IN LATEST CASE
In a case that has once again highlighted the ongoing concerns surrounding online predatory behavior, Jonathan Jupp, a resident of Warrington, was found guilty of sending sexually explicit messages to what he believed was a 13-year-old girl.The incident took place in February 2018, when Jupp engaged with a Facebook account created by the Justice for Children paedophile hunters group, which was set up specifically to catch individuals attempting to contact minors for inappropriate purposes.
According to reports, Jupp, who was 24 years old at the time, initiated contact with the decoy profile under the alias Jonah Lee on Saturday, February 17.
The account was designed to simulate a young girl, and after establishing communication, Jupp proceeded to send two explicit messages, not realizing he was speaking to an undercover operation.
The group’s Facebook page subsequently posted screenshots of the conversation along with Jupp’s photograph, leading to his swift arrest.
Jupp was apprehended at his residence on Brook Avenue in Westy, Warrington, shortly after the messages were exposed.
During police interviews, he broke down emotionally and admitted to the act, acknowledging that he had sent the inappropriate messages.
It was revealed that Jupp had a lengthy criminal history, with 21 previous convictions spanning 31 offences, which underscored his pattern of offending behavior.
Further investigations uncovered that Jupp had failed to notify authorities of his new address on Henshall Avenue in Latchford after moving.
The court heard that his reluctance to come forward was influenced by a prior attack by two men who had seen the Justice for Children Facebook post, which had left him fearful of leaving his home.
Despite the gravity of his actions, Judge Norman Wright decided against imposing a custodial sentence.
Instead, Jupp was given a community order lasting two years, along with a rehabilitation activity requirement of up to 60 days.
Additionally, he was subjected to a five-year notification requirement and an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
As part of the sentencing, Jupp was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge.
In his remarks, Judge Wright expressed his disapproval of Jupp’s behavior but emphasized the importance of rehabilitation.
He stated, “Anybody would be horrified at the notion of a 24-year-old contacting a 13-year-old in this way.
You need help in adjusting your attitudes.
In ordinary circumstances, nobody who has engaged in the shameful behaviour that you did could expect anything less than an immediate custodial sentence.
However, I seek instead to look forward to what can best be done to ensure that you don’t act in this way in the future.”
