JONATHAN HYATT OF ATHERTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN LIVERPOOL
In a case that has shocked the local community of Atherton, Jonathan Hyatt, a 49-year-old resident of Bolton Road, was sentenced to four months in prison after admitting to possessing indecent images of children. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about Hyatt’s actions and the nature of the material found at his home.According to the court, police officers executed a search warrant at Hyatt’s residence on March 1 of the previous year. During the search, they confiscated his desktop computer along with several discs containing illicit content. Subsequent analysis of these digital devices uncovered a collection of 43 movies depicting child abuse, with 33 of these classified as being in the second most serious category of abuse. Additionally, investigators discovered approximately 20 pseudo-photographs, which are images manipulated or created to resemble child abuse scenarios.
The court heard that the children depicted in these movies and photographs were estimated to be between three and six years old. Judge David Harris QC expressed his concern over the disturbing nature of the images, stating that some of the children appeared to be coerced and intimidated, while others seemed to have been compliant due to a desensitization to such abuse, which had become a disturbing part of their reality. The judge emphasized that Hyatt’s involvement contributed to this cycle of exploitation and abuse.
During the proceedings, Hyatt pleaded guilty to ten charges of possessing indecent images of children. The judge sentenced him to four months in prison and ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for a period of seven years. Furthermore, an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order was imposed to restrict his future conduct.
Prosecutor Ben Jones highlighted that police had initially visited Hyatt’s home and seized his computer equipment, which led to the discovery of the illicit images. Hyatt initially denied responsibility for the content, prompting police to question his wife and 21-year-old son in an effort to establish the facts.
Defense lawyer Tom Watson acknowledged Hyatt’s denial and refusal to accept the reality of his actions but noted that his client had shown some remorse, including an attempt on his own life following his arrest. Watson also pointed out that Hyatt’s marriage had broken down and that he had suffered three heart attacks, which added to the complexity of his situation. The defense emphasized that Hyatt would have to live with the shame and stigma associated with his offending, which has profoundly affected his personal life and reputation.
