August 2023 Man jailed for sexually abusing child in Kingston The son of a Kingston childminder has been jailed for sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl under his mother’s care. At Kingston Crown Court, on Friday 18 August, Jonathan Hayter, 32, of Cardinal Avenue, Kingston was sentenced to four years and eight months’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting a child. He had been found guilty of sexual assault of a child under 13 following the conclusion of a trial at the same court. The jury heard evidence that when the abuse started, in 2007, Hayter was aged 16 and the child was aged five. At least eight offences took place during a two year period at the childminding service run by his mother. The offending came to light after the victim reported the offences to the police in November 2020. An investigation was launched and Hayter was arrested and charged. Police have said that the abuse of other children cannot be ruled out.
