DRUNK MAN THROWS PARTNER AGAINST WALL IN DOMESTIC ASSAULT
A woman accused her partner, Jonathan Briggs, of assault during a heated argument.Briggs was seen by witnesses, including two men sitting in a car outside their home, picking up the victim and throwing her against a wall.
The incident occurred on June 22 after they returned home following a family gathering.
According to the prosecutor, Vicky Trueman, Briggs pushed the woman out of bed and then pushed her against a wall when she tried to defend herself.
The victim then ran downstairs and out of the house.
Witnesses described Briggs as grabbing his partner with both hands and throwing her onto the floor, before throwing objects, possibly a pillow, across the room.
The court was told that Briggs was intoxicated and blamed the build-up of stresses, including work and depression, for his actions.
He admitted the assault, describing it as 'a massive blip' and 'completely out of character.' Judge Michael Fanning sentenced Briggs to a 12-month community order with up to 20 rehabilitation days and a programme aimed at improving his relationship.
Briggs was also fined £350 and ordered to pay court costs and a victim surcharge.
The judge stated that it was too demeaning to the victim to award compensation.
Briggs was unrepresented at the hearing and expressed remorse, acknowledging his alcohol problem and stresses in his life.
