GALASHIELS MAN JAILED FOR PRESSING SCISSORS TO PARTNER'S NECK
A GALASHIELS man who pressed a pair of scissors into his partner's neck and threatened to kill her has been jailed for 16 months at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.Thirty-year-old Jonathan Barnes pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman at a house in Langlee Drive, Galashiels, on July 28.
He admitted pushing her onto a bed, restraining her on the bed with his body, lying on top of her preventing her from moving before pressing the scissors against her neck and threatening to kill her.
Barnes pleaded guilty to a second charge of threatening or abusive behaviour in Langlee Drive and Woodstock Road by shouting and swearing, making threats to harm himself and placing a knife at his throat before making threats and offensive remarks towards his partner.
Sheriff Peter Paterson imposed two consecutive jail sentences totalling 16 months back-dated to September when he was first remanded in custody in connection with the matter.
A non-harassment order was also made preventing Barnes from having any contact with the woman for the next three years.
