JON WOMACK FROM SOUTHCOTE SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS FOR RAPE IN READING

In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention in the Southcote area, Jon Womack, a man known to reside in Coronation Square, was sentenced to a six-year prison term after being convicted of a serious sexual offense. The incident in question occurred on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, when Womack assaulted a woman in her 30s within the Southcote neighborhood.

The case was brought to a close at Reading Crown Court, where Womack faced a 10-day trial. On Friday, July 15, the jury reached a majority verdict, finding him guilty of the charge of rape. Following the verdict, Womack, aged 37 at the time, was formally sentenced on Friday, August 5, at the same court.

Detective Gary Tull, who led the investigation, expressed the profound impact the crime has had on the victim. He stated, “Since the incident in June 2014, the emotional impact on the victim has been substantial. The victim has had to relive the fear and indignity of the assault when recounting her experience in court.”

He further emphasized the importance of the conviction, saying, “This conviction will help her move on with her life and will protect the public from a serious sexual offender.”

During the trial, Womack was also tried on additional charges but was acquitted of a second count of rape and an assault involving a female aged 13 or over by penetration. The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address and prosecute sexual offenses within the community, particularly in the Southcote area of Reading.
