JON PAUL NEWELL FROM ABBOTS LANGLEY AND RAWTENSTALL JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES

In a significant development in the fight against child abuse, Jon Paul Newell, a man originally from Abbots Langley who later moved to Rawtenstall, Lancashire, has been sentenced to prison for a series of disturbing sexual offences committed against a young girl. The case was heard at St Albans Crown Court, where Newell, aged 47, faced the consequences of his actions.

Newell’s criminal activities spanned a period during which he carried out multiple offences in the town of Abbots Langley. His crimes involved three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, as well as three counts of assault by penetration. These serious allegations were brought to light during the court proceedings, which took place on July 9, leading to his guilty plea.

On that day, Newell admitted to the charges, acknowledging his involvement in the sexual offences against his female victim. The court subsequently sentenced him on Monday, August 2, with a total imprisonment term of three years. Specifically, he received three concurrent sentences of 18 months each for the counts of sexual activity with a child. Additionally, he was sentenced to 18 months for each of the assault by penetration counts, with all sentences to run concurrently, effectively consolidating his punishment into a single term.

Furthermore, Newell has been placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, a measure aimed at monitoring his activities and preventing further harm. As part of the court’s decision, a Sexual Offences Prevention Order was also issued, which imposes restrictions and safeguards to protect children within the community upon his release from custody.

Detective Inspector Paul Doran, who is part of the child abuse investigation unit, commented on the case, stating, “The sentence given to Jon Paul Newell is a positive result for the appalling offences he committed against his young victim. It sends a strong message that such activities will not be tolerated in Hertfordshire. We are committed to thoroughly investigating all allegations of child abuse to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.”
