HORRIFIC CRIME: JOHNATHAN MAXWELL FROM HULL CAUGHT IN ONLINE PREDATOR SCHEME
In December 2018, a deeply disturbing case emerged involving Johnathan Maxwell, a 31-year-old man from Hull, who was exposed as a paedophile with heinous intentions towards minors.Maxwell was apprehended after online paedophile hunters from the group 'Net Justice' successfully identified and located him at his residence on Derwent Street, east Hull, following a series of alarming online communications.
According to court reports, Maxwell had engaged in sexual conversations with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl, known as 'Sarah,' on the dating application Meet For You.
Under the alias 'Johnathon 30,' Maxwell initiated contact on Boxing Day of the previous year, openly asking if his age difference was a problem.
The decoy, who was part of the 'Net Justice' operation, revealed her true age, and Maxwell responded with inappropriate questions and comments.
Prosecutor Charlotte Baines detailed that Maxwell then requested Sarah’s mobile number, and their conversation transitioned to WhatsApp, where the dialogue quickly turned sexual in nature.
Maxwell suggested they could sleep in the same bed, with him advising her to lie to her mother about her whereabouts.
He explicitly proposed making love, later clarifying that he meant engaging in sexual acts.
Sarah disclosed her virginity, and Maxwell assured her he would be gentle.
Further, Maxwell discussed explicit sexual acts he intended to perform and arranged to meet 'Sarah' in Leeds on February 10.
However, due to the content of their chats, members of 'Net Justice' collaborated with other group members to verify Maxwell’s identity.
They located him at his home, where he was living with his parents.
Maxwell did not deny his actions and admitted to the group that he had been communicating with other minors, including another 13-year-old girl, her mother, and a 14-year-old friend.
It remains unclear whether these other individuals were real or decoys.
Maxwell expressed a strange sense of relief at being caught, claiming he wanted help for his troubling behavior.
Police arrived at his residence, arrested him, and seized his mobile phone.
The device was later examined and found to contain ten indecent images of children, categorized as two at category B and eight at category C.
During the investigation, Maxwell revealed plans to meet another girl and her younger sisters at a hotel in Grimsby for sexual activity.
He was arrested before he could carry out this plan.
Evidence also showed he had sent explicit images of himself and instructed the girl to persuade her mother to perform a sex act on her.
In one disturbing message, Maxwell wrote, 'Since it is taking ages to meet I will f*** you all.' When asked if he would have sex with a one-year-old, Maxwell shockingly replied, 'A one, a six, a ten, a thirteen, a fourteen, and how old is your mother?' Maxwell’s actions led to multiple criminal charges, including attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child, attempting to communicate sexually with minors, attempting to cause a child to watch sexual acts, and possession of indecent images of children.
His mobile phone contained material that further confirmed his predatory behavior.
In court, Judge Mark Bury sentenced Maxwell to three and a half years in prison.
The judge described some of Maxwell’s comments to the minors as 'toe-curlingly revolting,' citing his disturbing admission that he was aroused by images of a father raping his three-year-old daughter.
Maxwell was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subjected to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, emphasizing the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
