JOHN TOOBY'S REPEATED FAILURES IN ALVASTON: CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND SEX OFFENDER REOFFENSES IN DERBY

In August 2011, a disturbing case unfolded involving John Tooby, a known sex offender from Alvaston, who was once again brought before Derby Crown Court on serious charges related to child exploitation and possession of indecent images. Despite having previously undergone extensive treatment aimed at curbing his sexual urges towards young girls, Tooby's actions demonstrated a troubling inability to resist his compulsions.

Police investigations revealed that Tooby, aged 47, had downloaded a significant collection of child pornography onto his home computer. A total of 957 graphic images were discovered, many of which depicted the most severe forms of abuse involving children. During questioning, Tooby openly admitted that he was sexually attracted to young girls, confirming the dangerous nature of his predilections.

His criminal history is extensive and deeply troubling. The court was informed that Tooby had a long-standing pattern of sexual offences dating back to the early 1980s. He was convicted of two counts of indecent exposure in 1981, and in 1990, he received a prison sentence of two and a half years after being found guilty of six counts of gross indecency with a child. Further convictions followed in 2004, including indecent assault on a girl under 14 and possession of indecent photographs of children. His past also included offences involving a nine-year-old girl and another girl aged between 10 and 12.
