JOHN STUBBS FROM BISHOP AUCKLAND ADMITS TO POSSESSING THOUSANDS OF INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
In a serious case heard at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court, John Trevor Stubbs, a resident of Arthur Terrace in Bishop Auckland, faced charges related to the possession and creation of numerous indecent images of children. The proceedings revealed that Stubbs had pleaded guilty to multiple counts involving the possession of explicit material and the production of such images over a span of several years.
Specifically, Stubbs admitted to possessing five indecent images on June 23, 2019.
In addition, he confessed to creating a total of 48 category B indecent photographs of children between January 3, 2008, and November 6, 2019.
The charges further detailed that he had produced an alarming number of images, including 1,996 category C indecent photographs and one category A image, all within the same timeframe.
Prosecutor Alan Davies explained that law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Stubbs' residence last year.
During the search, authorities discovered multiple laptops and hard drives.
A forensic examination of these devices uncovered a significant collection of indecent images and videos depicting children, underscoring the severity of the case.
Defense lawyer Elizabeth Aisbitt stated that her client had entered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity, which was considered a mitigating factor in the proceedings.
The case was subsequently adjourned to allow for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
Stubbs is scheduled to return to court on September 2 for sentencing.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about child exploitation and the importance of rigorous law enforcement efforts to combat such crimes in the Bishop Auckland area and beyond.
