JOHN SLEITH FROM URMSTON SENTENCED TO 19 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING CHILDREN IN TRAFFORD

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Urmston and the wider Trafford area, John Sleith, a 70-year-old man residing on Rothiemay Road in Urmston, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 19 years after being found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offences committed over an extended period.

The crimes, which spanned from 2004 to 2012, involved the abuse of two young children, a boy and a girl, both under the age of 12 at the time. The court heard that Sleith subjected these vulnerable victims to repeated acts of sexual violence, with the abuse occurring primarily within the Trafford region.

During the proceedings at Minshull Street Crown Court, it was revealed that Sleith employed threats and intimidation to silence the victims, warning them that they would face imprisonment if they disclosed what was happening. His manipulative tactics aimed to keep the children silent and prevent any intervention or rescue.

One of the most disturbing aspects of the case was the revelation that Sleith coerced the girl victim into meeting with other dangerous paedophiles, who then sexually assaulted her. This aspect of the abuse highlighted the extent of Sleith’s predatory behavior and his role in facilitating further exploitation of the young girl.

The case took a significant turn in November 2017 when one of the victims confided in a family member about the abuse. This disclosure prompted immediate action from law enforcement authorities, leading to an investigation and subsequent police intervention. Despite his initial denials and claims that the victims were lying, Sleith was arrested and brought before the court. During the trial, he pleaded guilty to a total of 18 counts of non-recent sexual offences, which included charges of rape, sexual touching, and arranging for the children to meet other men for sexual acts.
