John Rosewarne

Redruth Sexual Abuser

Farmer found guilty of child abuse on Helston farm: UPDATE John Rosewarne has been found guilty one count of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 and two counts of indecent assault. He was found not guilty of one count of indecent assault and one count of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13. He will be sentenced at a future date. April 2013 Redruth farmer John Rosewarne accused of child sex abuse A FARMER accused of sexually abusing a naive schoolgirl over a long period of time described their relationship as “marvellous”, a court heard. John Rosewarne, 63, of Pencarn Parc, Four Lanes, Redruth, denied five counts of indecent assault and sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13. However, at Truro Crown Court on Monday, he admitted one count of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 The jury was told Rosewarne had allegedly abused the girl at his farm in Helston between 1975, when she was 10, and 1977, when she was 12. Now 47, the alleged victim described how the abuse started. “John used to mess around and called me a ‘boy’ to wind me up. It all started when I had my first bra and I remember him saying, ‘Oh, let me see it’, and I showed it to him.” The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, told the court how sexual activity then developed. She said Rosewarne kissed her, touched her indecently and had full intercourse with her. The woman also claimed Rosewarne’s brother would sometimes watch. “He said it was a secret and that I could not tell anyone. I remember feeling special. It was a long time ago but I have strong memories of what happened.” Phillip Lee, for the prosecution, said there was no doubt the victim was under 13 when the abuse took place but when Rosewarne was interviewed by police he claimed not to have known how young she was. Mr Lee added: “He admitted having a sexual relationship with her but he maintained this was only when she was 16. He described their relationship as ‘marvellous’, but he must have known how old she was. This so-called relationship was nothing less than sexual abuse of a naive schoolgirl.” Ramsay Quaife, for the defence, said the woman was mistaken and her memory was playing tricks, telling her: “You were in love with him and it was you who began the sexual relationship with him.” The trial continues.
