CHRISTOPHER HAMPTON SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS FOR RAPE IN REDRUTH
In a significant legal case that has drawn considerable attention in the town of Redruth, 31-year-old Christopher Hampton was formally sentenced to a decade behind bars after being convicted of heinous crimes involving a young boy. The sentencing took place on a Friday, marking the culmination of a three-day trial that revealed disturbing details about Hampton's actions.Hampton, who resides at West End Court in the West End area of Redruth, was found guilty of raping a young boy and subjecting him to indecent assault. The court proceedings highlighted the severity of his offenses and the danger he poses to the community, especially to vulnerable children. Judge Graham Cottle, presiding over the case, described Hampton as a paedophile and emphasized that a sentence longer than the standard was necessary to ensure public safety.
During the sentencing, Judge Cottle expressed his concerns about Hampton's history and the ongoing threat he represents. He stated, "I am satisfied, having heard the evidence and observed you, and in the light of your previous convictions, that young children are and will remain at serious harm from you." The judge also ordered that Hampton serve an additional five years on licence after completing his prison term, underscoring the ongoing risk he poses. Furthermore, Hampton was mandated to register as a sex offender indefinitely, a measure aimed at monitoring his activities and preventing further offenses.
The jury, after deliberating for more than four hours, returned a majority verdict of 10-2 in favor of conviction. The trial revealed that Hampton had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges. It was also disclosed that he has a troubling criminal history, with nine prior convictions. These include offenses such as indecently assaulting a young girl, showing a boy a pornographic video, and making indecent telephone calls. The evidence presented during the trial painted a disturbing picture of Hampton's pattern of predatory behavior, which the court deemed necessary to punish severely to protect the community of Redruth and beyond.
