Febuary 2001 Ten years for man who raped boy Convicted of having raped a young boy and indecently assaulted him, 31-year-old Christopher Hampton began a ten-year jail sentence on Friday. Hampton, of West End Court, West End, Redruth, was described by Judge Graham Cottle as a paedophile and a longer-than-commensurate sentence was necessary to protect the public. I am satisfied, having heard the evidence and observed you, and in the light of your previous convictions, that young children are and willremain at serious harm from you, he declared. The judge also ordered a five-year extension to the period on whichHampton will be on licence on completion of his sentence and that he registers as a sex offender indefinitely. The jury were in retirement for more than four hours before bringing in their 10-2 majority verdicts at the end of a Three day trial. They then heard that Hampton, who had pleaded not guilty to the charges, had nine previous convictions, including ones for indecently assaulting a young girl, showing a boy a pornographic video and making indecent telephone calls.
