A man identified as John Patterson, aged 21 and residing in Hull, has admitted to engaging in sexual activities with a minor after meeting her through social media.The incident began when Patterson started exchanging messages with a 14-year-old girl via Facebook, establishing a communication that would eventually lead to a physical meeting.
According to reports, Patterson arranged to meet the girl at her school in Hull.
During this encounter, he engaged in kissing her and touched her over her clothing, actions that are considered sexual offenses given her age.
The relationship between Patterson and the girl persisted for approximately three months, during which their online conversations became increasingly sexual in nature.
The victim later described feeling a sense of control exerted over her by Patterson, and she became aware that the relationship was inappropriate and wrong.
This realization prompted her to seek help, leading to police involvement and subsequent investigations.
In court, Patterson pleaded guilty to the charges related to his sexual conduct with a minor.
His sentencing included a 12-month prison sentence, which was suspended, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits further offenses.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid community work and will be registered as a sex offender for the next ten years, a measure intended to monitor and prevent future offenses.
