May 2017 Paedophile Scout leader finally jailed A man sexually abused by a Salford scout leader in the 1960s found the strength to speak out because he was worried his grandson could also be targeted by the paedophile. John Francis Parrish, 70, who was a scout master in Salford , assaulted the youngster almost every week over a four year period in the late 1960s. But the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, suffered in silence for more than 50 years until his grandson expressed an interest in joining the Scouts. The man was worried Parrish might still be abusing children. He revealed he’d been sexually assaulted by the scout master between 1966 and 1970. Almost every week Parrish would accompany him to the toilet and sexually assault him while whispering: ‘Be quiet’. Parrish, now of Castle Gates, Shrewsbury, pleaded guilty to six counts of indecent assault on a male under the age of 14. He was jailed for eight years at Manchester Crown Court , on Crown Square, on Friday.
