JOHN NORTH SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS FOR HISTORIC SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN NORTHALLERTON

In a recent court ruling, John North, a resident of Northallerton, was sentenced to a decade behind bars after being convicted of multiple historic sexual offenses committed against young girls. The crimes, which spanned over a fifteen-year period from 2002 to 2017, involved a series of disturbing assaults that have left lasting scars on the victims.

John North, aged 68, faced a jury at Durham Crown Court where he was found guilty of a total of 11 counts of sexual assault on a child. In addition, he was convicted of two counts of indecent assault on a child, one count of assault by penetration, and a further charge of causing a child to watch a sexual act. These charges paint a disturbing picture of the abuse inflicted upon vulnerable victims over many years.

During the court proceedings, a victim’s statement was read aloud, revealing the profound emotional impact of North’s actions. The victim expressed feelings of loneliness and shame, stating, “After being abused by John I felt alone, I didn’t want anyone to know what had happened to me. I was ashamed and embarrassed. No matter the punishment he gets I will always be scarred by what he did.”

Following his conviction, he was sentenced to ten years in prison and was also placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, a measure designed to restrict his future contact with children and prevent further offenses.
