August 2010 Rail boss jailed for rape of two girls A RAILWAY boss repeatedly raped two young girls at his Stratford depot in a secret room equipped with a doll’s house and toys. John Nokes, 59, also filmed himself molesting his victims, aged nine and 12, at his “paedophile’s lair” within a National Rail depot off Gibbins Road and in the back of his van. He even ordered the youngest girl to take the camera and film him raping the other girl. During the recordings, the section manager provided “voice over” style commentary of his abuse before storing the films on his laptop computer. Jailing him indefinitely at Snaresbrook Crown Court, Judge Simon Freeland, QC, said the videos amounted to a “shocking catalogue of an abuse of childhood”. He said he was dealing with multiple rape of two young victims and other sordid offences The offences against girls so young, endured over a period of some two years were “planned and exploitative,” he added. Nokes will serve at least seven-and-a-half years behind bars before a parole board can consider his release. The court heard the raft of charges admitted by Nokes were “sample counts”. He struck between January 1, 2008 and January 13 this year and was snared when his younger victim blurted out to her family that she had been made to film the other girl perform a sex act on her attacker. When Nokes was arrested, detectives were sickened to find the pervert had set up aspecial play room for the abuse at his workplace. The 12-year-old revealed to specially-trained detectives that Nokes had also routinely assaulted her and the nine-year-old while parked up in his vehicle. Oral sex took place mostly at his workplace, but sometimes in his van in Dagenham. Officers seized Nokes’s Toshiba laptop, which contained a series of still and moving images of Nokes raping the youngsters. Naomi Perry, mitigating, said of Nokes: “The defendant is a moral being, recognising that what he’s done is wrong.” In his police interview, she told the court Nokes said: “I’m ashamed for me and sorry for the girls.” Nokes, from Mile End, admitted ten counts of rape, assault by penetration, and six counts of sexual assault all on a child under 13 and 14 counts of taking indecent photographs of a child. He was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life. He is also subject to a banning order covering living, working or being alone with anyone under 16 and being within 50 metres of schools, playgrounds, parks and amusement arcades.
