JOHN MYLES FROM LEICESTERSHIRE SENTENCED TO OVER SIX YEARS FOR ONLINE SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING TEENAGERS
A former teacher from Leicestershire has been handed a prison sentence of more than six years after admitting to a series of serious sexual offences committed against minors through online platforms. The investigation into John Ewan Myles’s activities was initiated in April 2022 when Leicestershire Police received a report detailing his inappropriate online interactions with a teenage girl he had met on the internet.
At the time of these events, Myles was employed as a teacher at Ashby School, a well-known educational institution in the region.
The police swiftly responded to the report by arresting Myles at his residence in North West Leicestershire during the same month.
During the search of his home, officers recovered multiple electronic devices, including a mobile phone that was found hidden beneath his bed, which became crucial evidence in the case.
As the investigation unfolded, authorities identified the teenage girl involved.
She was subsequently interviewed by officers, revealing that Myles had initially contacted her online under a false identity, claiming he was 18 years old.
Their online communication spanned several months, during which Myles gradually escalated the nature of their interactions.
He began sending her explicit images of himself, further entrenching their online relationship.
Investigators examined the devices seized from Myles and uncovered evidence of a sexual relationship conducted entirely over the internet.
This included numerous recorded video calls during which sexual activities took place between Myles and the girl.
One such video call was particularly disturbing, as the girl was heard stating she was only 15 years old.
Some of the videos also showed her wearing her school uniform, adding to the severity of the offences.
John Myles, aged 36, faced multiple charges related to these offences.
He pleaded guilty to several counts, including engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child aged 13 to 15, causing a child of that age to view sexual images, and engaging in sexual communication with a minor.
He also admitted to making indecent photographs of a child and inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, with some acts involving no penetration.
During the course of the investigation, Myles made a further disclosure involving another teenage girl.
This led to additional evidence revealing that he had contacted her using the same alias, Jamie Reid, claiming he was 17 years old.
Similar to his previous interactions, he engaged her in sexual conversations, requesting explicit images and videos, and reciprocating with his own explicit material.
The new charges included causing and inciting the girl to engage in sexual activity, both with and without penetration, and causing her to view sexual images.
In addition to the sexual offences, Myles pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornographic images depicting acts of intercourse or oral sex involving dead or alive animals, a separate and disturbing offence.
Today, at Leicester Crown Court, Myles was sentenced to six years and six months in prison.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the next 15 years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further offending.
