JOHN MENSAH FROM CROYDON SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT IN WALLINGTON

In a case that has shocked the local community, John Mensah, a resident of Broadcoombe in Croydon, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of two young girls. The offences took place in Wallington, where Mensah, who was a trusted family friend, exploited his relationship with the children to commit these grave acts.

According to court proceedings, the incident occurred in February 2012, when Mensah took the two girls, both under the age of ten, out for a day of leisure. The day began with a visit to a fast-food restaurant, a seemingly innocent outing. However, the day took a dark turn when Mensah took the children to a private venue in Wallington that he had access to. It was there that he committed the crimes, raping one of the girls and sexually assaulting both of them.

The case came to light after one of the young victims confided in her mother about the abuse. This disclosure prompted an investigation by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Child Abuse Command. Mensah was swiftly arrested and taken into custody. During police interviews, he chose to remain silent, offering no responses to the questions posed to him.

Following a thorough investigation and a trial held at Croydon Crown Court in December 2011, a jury found Mensah guilty of nine separate sexual offences. These included charges of rape, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. The verdict marked a significant step in justice for the victims and their families.

Detective Constable Craig Bowden, a representative of the Child Abuse Investigation Command, expressed his condemnation of Mensah’s actions. He stated, “John Mensah was trusted by the families of the children and he used this trust to commit awful crimes against two young girls. He is a predatory paedophile who will now spend a considerable amount of time in prison.”

He also praised the bravery of the young victims, saying, “Their courage in disclosing their ordeals to their families and subsequently to specially trained police officers was instrumental in bringing Mensah to justice. Without their bravery, Mensah would not be behind bars today.”
