JOHN MCCASH PERTH SEX OFFENDER HID CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND TRICKED WOMEN INTO PROSTITUTION
In June 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving John McCash, a man from Perth who engaged in a series of heinous crimes that shocked the local community and law enforcement alike.McCash, then aged 19, was found to have used a fabricated Facebook profile to deceive women into engaging in sexual acts with him.
His method involved promising to pay a woman £1000 for sex, a tactic that exploited her financial struggles and vulnerability.
The deception was part of a broader pattern of predatory behavior, as McCash admitted to procuring prostitutes, citing that it was an 'easy way to have sex with women without having to talk to them.' The investigation into McCash's activities took a significant turn when his first victim’s friend, also targeted online, helped authorities set up a sting operation.
This friend, an 18-year-old girl who was struggling to pay her rent, was approached by McCash for a late-night meeting in the back of his car.
However, the two friends had been warned about McCash’s tactics and devised a plan to catch him in the act.
On the night of the incident, McCash drove into Perth city centre, where he was met with a group of young women waiting in the shadows.
These women observed his vehicle and noted his license plate, preparing to identify him.
Although McCash managed to escape the scene, the women promptly reported the incident to Police Scotland.
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, conducting a search of his residence on Appin Terrace around 5am.
During the police search, officers examined McCash’s mobile phones and computers, uncovering evidence of his attempts to solicit girls for sex.
More alarmingly, they discovered indecent photographs and videos depicting children as young as eight years old.
CCTV footage was also retrieved, showing McCash’s car entering Canal Street on the evening of Monday, September 21, 2015.
The footage captured a figure leaning down towards the vehicle before it drove off, followed by a group of individuals chasing the car down the street.
Depute Fiscal John Malpass explained that one of the girls had tried to snatch McCash’s car keys during the incident.
Although she was unsuccessful, multiple witnesses had seen his face and could identify his vehicle, which aided in his subsequent arrest.
McCash was brought before Perth Sheriff Court, where he was placed on the sex offenders’ register.
His sentencing was deferred pending further reports to assess the potential danger he posed to the public.
The court also heard that McCash had previously created an online profile under the alias “Ryan Mitchell” at the age of 15, which he used to approach young women on Facebook.
The investigation revealed a disturbing collection of child sexual abuse images and videos stored on his devices, adding to the severity of his crimes and the concern for community safety.
