JOHN LOGAN SENTENCED IN GALASHIELS FOR HISTORICAL SEX OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS
A man aged 61, identified as John Logan, has been handed down a four-year prison sentence after being convicted of serious historical sexual offences committed in Galashiels.The conviction was secured at the High Court in Edinburgh last month, following a comprehensive trial that examined allegations spanning several years.
Logan, who is also known by the alias Ian, faced multiple charges related to his conduct towards two young girls during the period from 1973 to 1981.
The charges included lewd and libidinous practices, indecent assault, and assault causing injury.
Despite maintaining his innocence and pleading not guilty to all counts, the jury reached a unanimous verdict, finding him guilty on two counts of lewd and libidinous practices, as well as indecent assault and assault resulting in injury.
Following the conviction, Lady Carmichael presided over the sentencing hearing.
She ordered that Logan serve a prison term of four years, with the sentence to commence from November 10.
Additionally, she mandated that Logan adhere to the notification requirements stipulated under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, which involves registration and ongoing monitoring due to the nature of his convictions.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of the justice system to address and bring to account historical offences, even many years after the alleged incidents took place.
