JOHN KELLY SHOCKS PERTH WITH VIOLENT OUTBURST AGAINST PARTNER AT SHERIFF COURT
At Perth Sheriff Court, 51-year-old John Kelly faced justice after being found guilty of assaulting his partner, Arlene Palmer, at their shared residence on September 17 of this year.The incident unfolded following a heated argument that was reportedly sparked by a disagreement over household chores.
Earlier that day, Kelly had spent considerable time in the rear garden of their Perth home, engaged in burning rubbish.
When he returned, he was noticeably smelling of smoke, which seemed to set the stage for the subsequent confrontation.
As tensions escalated inside the house, Kelly's frustration boiled over, leading him to pick up a chair and hurl it across the room in Miss Palmer’s direction.
The chair shattered into multiple pieces upon impact, and one fragment struck her arm as she instinctively raised her hand in a defensive gesture.
Although she sustained bruising, the injury was not serious enough to require medical treatment.
This violent episode was not an isolated incident.
Court records revealed that Kelly had attacked Miss Palmer on previous occasions in recent months, although he had no prior criminal record before these events.
During the court proceedings, Kelly admitted to the assault and expressed a desire for reconciliation, indicating remorse for his actions.
However, Sheriff Gillian Wade issued a stern warning, emphasizing that Kelly could face a custodial sentence if such behavior continued.
After considering the circumstances, she decided against immediate imprisonment and instead imposed a community payback order.
Kelly was sentenced to complete 165 hours of unpaid work and participate in an eight-week Positive Relationships group program, aimed at addressing underlying issues and preventing future violence.
Throughout the hearing, the court underscored the seriousness of domestic violence and the importance of accountability, especially in cases involving individuals with no prior criminal history but a recent pattern of aggressive behavior.
