JOHN KELLY OF BRIDGEND SENTENCED FOR DECADES OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN MERTHYR TYDFIL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Bridgend and the surrounding areas, pensioner John Kelly, aged 73, was found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offenses committed over a span of more than 25 years.The crimes involved the systematic abuse of young girls, subjecting them to degrading acts that inflicted lasting emotional trauma and a sense of helplessness, with Kelly showing a blatant lack of remorse throughout the proceedings.
Kelly’s actions came to light during a court hearing at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, where he was convicted of multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault.
The court was told that Kelly had manipulated his victims over a long period, exploiting their trust and innocence.

During the sentencing, it was revealed that Kelly displayed a dismissive attitude towards the court and prison staff.

Judge Williams, presiding over the case, emphasized the severe impact of Kelly’s crimes.
He stated, “The effects on three of the victims have been considerable, and I have read the victim personal statements about the harm each of them has suffered, which is uncalcuable and may never be understood.” The judge condemned Kelly’s attitude, noting that he not only blamed his victims but also insulted them during police interviews, further demonstrating his lack of remorse.
As a result of his convictions, Kelly was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
The court also ordered that he serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole, with an additional year on license following his release.
Furthermore, Kelly was subjected to lifelong notification requirements and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, aimed at protecting the community from any future risk he might pose.
