JOHN KEEGAN FROM COVENTRY SPARED PRISON AFTER CREATING OVER 170 INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
In a case that has shocked the Coventry community, 60-year-old John Keegan from Harnall Lane East, Hillfields, appeared before Coventry Magistrates’ Court to face charges related to the production of indecent images of children. The court proceedings revealed that Keegan had been involved in creating a significant number of illicit images over a period spanning from February 2016 to July 2017.During the hearing, Keegan pleaded guilty to multiple counts of producing indecent images. Specifically, he admitted to creating one image classified as Category A, which is considered the most severe and explicit form of such material. Additionally, he acknowledged producing one image in Category B and a total of 171 images in Category C, which, while still illegal, are deemed less serious but nonetheless deeply troubling.
The court was informed that Keegan’s actions involved a substantial collection of illicit material, raising serious concerns about his conduct and the potential harm to victims depicted in these images. Despite the gravity of the charges, the judge opted to impose a relatively lenient sentence, handing Keegan a 16-week prison term. However, this sentence was suspended for two years, meaning Keegan will not serve time in prison unless he commits further offences within that period.
As part of his sentencing, Keegan was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for a duration of seven years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. Furthermore, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, designed to restrict his access to certain online content and prevent any future offending behavior. The court also imposed a fine of £100, along with court costs totaling £185 and a victim surcharge of £115, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the need for accountability.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and judicial authorities in Coventry to combat the distribution and creation of illegal images involving minors. The community remains vigilant, and authorities continue to pursue offenders to protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation and harm.
